Featured Artist: Maryann

It's been a while since we featured an artist, but we try to impress! So here's something fresh to sooth your hungover heads on this Saturday morning.

"Maryann, northern California's freshest female vocalist, is hitting the scene hard in 2011. With a sound reminiscent of 90's RnB stars such as Aaliyah or Janet Jackson whose influence she draws on, Maryann has yet a voice and style all her own. Teaming up with producer N8 the Gr8, the two have been perfecting their sound while co-writing songs and experimenting over the past few years."

Maryann signed with CFO Recordings in 2010. Her debut album, Timing is Everything, has a set street date of September, 2011. To add to this impressive list, Maryann has collabed on The CUF's Caviar Vol. 1 and with Talib Kweli on the upcoming Lost Tribe album Sophie. So what are we waiting for? Let's get to the music!

Rollin' (Produced by N8 the Gr8) - Maryann ft. J. Kendall

Overlord (Produced by N8 the Gr8) - Maryann

Maryann's voice really makes the music. Whenever she comes solo on the tracks above, they really shine. One critique I have though is that Maryann's music doesn't focus on her enough. In Overload the beat seems to suppress her voice, while in Rollin' her lyrics don't mature throughout the song. Maybe I'm being too picky, but like our previous featured artists, Maryann has incredible talent; one I wouldn't want to see go to waste!

I look forward to more infectious music from Maryann with her ablum release in September. Meanwhile, if you want to contact her, information is below.
